How to Migrate from Skype to Call.com

Skype has long been a staple for video communication and instant messaging for two decades, but as Microsoft will be retiring this platform in May 2025, millions of users are looking for a reliable alternative.

While there are other alternative platforms such as Google Meet or Microsoft Teams that are intended to replace Skype, they do not have the functionality of Call.com which embraces virtual phone numbers, easy instant messaging which includes images and voice notes, and a range of privacy and personalisation features

For this reason, many are choosing to transfer to Call.com whether it’s for business use, personal use, or both. In this article, we’ll show you how to migrate fully from Skype to Call.com and get set up in no time whether you’re using the mobile app or the desktop version.

Step 1

Download Call.com from the website for the hybrid desktop version, or head over to the App Store to download Call.com for Apple devices, and the Google Play Store for Call.com on Android devices.

Install the app on your smartphone or tablet, or get the desktop version of Call.com on your Mac, Windows, ChromeOS or Linux device.

Step 2

Create an account with Call.com using the Sign Up option.

Enter your details and verify the account securely with your email address.

Set up your personal or business profile on the app so you can easily be identified by friends, family, and work colleagues.

Step 3

If you have lots of contacts on Skype, you should first go to the Skype Export page and download all of your contacts on a desktop device.

You will be given a CSV file that contains all of your Skype contacts which you can then import to your Google, Outlook or Apple contacts list.

Go to Contacts, and click New Contact to add someone in manually to Call.com then click Save.

However, if you want to import all of the contacts to Call.com, all you have to do is click the Sync From Device option on Call.com, grant it permission, and then all of your Skype contacts will be imported directly into Call.com.

Step 4

Now that you are set up on Call.com you can explore all of the features such as getting a virtual phone number for your work life.

To make free calls and texts to your contacts, invite them to join Call.com.

You can start voice and video calls with your friends, family, and co-workers and get used to how the platform works.

You can also choose to purchase credits if you want to send standard SMS text messages and phone calls.

Step 5

Set your privacy and security settings on Call.com, personalising your voicemail for the different numbers you have and set your availability status.

You can even set up call forwarding to different numbers to give you complete control of who can contact you and when.

You can create groups to make group calls, which is ideal for communicating with a group of friends or your remote team workmates.

That’s all there is to it! In less than half an hour you can be completely migrated from Skype to Call.com and enjoy a whole host of features that Skype didn’t have, all from your desktop device or smartphone.
